So far it hasn't affected training too bad, he has been pretty much the perfect baby so far, only crying when he is hungry or dirty. We were hoping to get a easy baby haha..so far so good. My weekend training has defiantly been much earlier than previously, but I am sure once everything settles down then I can make adjustments.

My wife and I both know that getting enough rest is important when having such a busy schedule. Two weeks into the new born, this is currently how we do night time. At 7:30 my wife will breast feed baby Carter until he falls asleep and then she moves to the living room basinet. At 8:00 my wife takes our 2 year old Brooklynn into our bed and lays with her until she falls asleep, at the same time I take our 7 year old Kyle to his bed and read to him while keeping an ear out for Baby Carter out in the living room. Once I read to my son, I tuck him in and head back out to the living room to keep a better eye on baby Carter. Once my wife gets Brooklynn to sleep, she will then come out to the living room with me for some relax time. She will stay out there with baby Carter and sleep on the recliner while I head to bed to lay with Brooklynn. This will last until around 1 am when my son gets up and heads to our bed, he then wakes me up and I make room for him. Roughly an hour later my daughter will wake up and head out to the living room to wake up my wife and ask for something to drink. My wife will then get her a drink and move baby carter to the basinet in our room, wake and kick me out of bed, then she lays down with the kids in our bed. I will then head out to the couch and sleep until 4am when my alarms goes off. I know this sounds crazy, but it is what is working right now.

Oh did I forget to mention we are also moving next weekend…ha..let the madness continue.

Below is a picture of Baby Carter with his Brother and Sister. J

Matthew Rubcichttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00968059379717190995noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4457933116399337932.post-13154381173415711352011-11-20T19:43:00.001-08:002011-11-20T19:43:39.070-08:00Death at finish of Rock 'n' Roll MarathonSan Antonio, TX – News has been circuiting the web that another runner has died in a ½ marathon/marathon. The runner was 32 year-old Jorge Fernandez who was declared dead shortly after collapsing just past the finish line of the 13.1 mile rate. The Bexar County medical examiner’s office has yet to determine a cause of death. “Fernandez, a one-time student at the University of Texas at San Antonio who graduated from Texas Tech in 2010, was a decorated Air Force staff sergeant who served two tours in Iraq, the last in 2006. He worked as a nurse in the surgical intensive-care unit of University Hospital after moving from Lubbock this year to be closer to his family (Oliver, 2011).”

This asks the question why do so many marathoners die? In most cases with runner’s deaths, it is because of an underlying health/genetic heart condition/defect that cause heart attacks and other cardiac related problems. We all know that running marathons puts a lot of strain on the body and combine that with hot temperatures and other factors and an ailment that may have been overlooked may pop out and kill an individual.
During a long running event as in this marathon, the heart becomes under more and more stress throughout the race as the body begins to fall into exhaustion. If dehydration starts to set in, the heart will work even harder to push diminishing volume of blood through the body.
Fernandez’s death is the fourth U.S. marathon death in two months and the third involving the Rock ‘n’ Roll marathon series fun by the San Diego-based Competitor Group. This may scare people away from running or competing in a marathon. I would consider that amongst the general population, marathon participants are probably less likely than their non-active peers to die from common conditions such as hypertension, diabetes, etc.
My biggest I mean BIGGEST vice is that I am a night or even late night sacker and right now there is left over birthday cake and ice cream just chilling in my fridge. Last night before putting my son to bed I had a small piece of cake at around 7:30 and then after I put him to sleep at 8:30 I got up and had a GIANT piece with a big bowl of pecan ice cream. Uggh what is wrong with me? During the day I don’t crave sweets at all, they can have a big party at work and I never get cake I stick with my fruit snakes but if its late at night my brain doesn’t function correctly and I dive right into my sweets. I asked my wife can you please stop getting any snacks for the kids that are sweet. Her answer was “maybe you shouldn’t be such a late night Pig. My kids are not typical kids, they like sweets every now and again the mostly eat fruit as a daily snack.

I have been searching the internet to find a solution to my problem. Believe it or not i have been concentrating on my running so much that this is the first time i got on my bike this year, that is crazy because before moving to California i rode every single day.

Woke up bright an early and set out to mission trails, its a pretty average ride until you hit this neighborhood hill for some serious climbing. My legs surprisingly felt great despite the lack of saddle time.

I defiantly need to start riding more!!!
One thing that i have been able to do is keep on keep on with my training. Besides having the 24 hr flu i am pretty much right on schedule with only 7 weeks to go until go time.

Why haven't i been able to post? Well my son just started soccer again, my wife's family came down and we recently traded in our Nissan Xterra for a dreaded mini-van. Good lord don't tell me its so? We are those people now? haha that being said the 2011 Honda Odyssey is pretty sweet.

I am starting to get a little nervous about the run, with only 7 weeks to go i have yet to hit the 20 mile mark. I planned on this Sunday being the day i hit that mark but having the 24 hour flu kind of set me back a bit. But we will see how it goes..Happy running everyoneMatthew Rubcichttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00968059379717190995noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4457933116399337932.post-33291213707965981972011-03-20T10:27:00.000-07:002011-03-20T10:27:40.928-07:0003.20.11 Training UpdateAfter last weekends 14 miler I didn't know what to expect today especially after running a 5 miler yesterday and the SD zoo. If anyone has been to the SD zoo you know its a pretty intense walk, but it was defiantly fun.

Today i new i wasn't going to be a 100% and i immediately had some tired legs, so i kept a slower pace for the first 5 miles or so. At about mile 7 i was running a 8:30 pace and my ego was crushed when a guy who had to be in his late 50's wearing a Carlsbad marathon shirt blew by me waving his had saying "Good Morning". I didn't hear good morning i heard "see ya slow poke", i waved disgruntly and said good morning.

I then decided to hit some trails that i have yet to explore and came across the SD river running pretty good. The path continued at the other side of the river so i was bummed. Then this old lady came out of nowhere so i asked her how do i get across to the path? She awnsered you cross the river, FOLLOW ME..I said OK and crossed the river, ended up with soaked shoes but it was a nice little break.
With only 99 days left until the big day i was pretty happy with the run. I stayed mostly on the paved path due to the heavy rain we have been having, this is the bridge that i normally run across to get to the dirt trails.
The trails were pretty packed despite most the dirt paths being closed. I am keeping this post short and sweet since i am pretty spent..haha
Ive been sore due to last Sundays Xterra 15k so i haven't hit the miles i wanted to this week, but i wanted to have a strong weekend. Saturday (day 13) i managed to get out to the school and knock out 4 miles at decent pace, i didn't want to hit it too hard because i defiantly wanted to save some for my long Sunday run.

Saturday was suppose to be a laid back day hitting up Target and Old Navy, but after going to Old Navy the family and I decided that we should skip Target and head down to the beach. The weather has been great lately, how can you complain about 80 degrees in February??
I love the beach in February because there is NO summer time vacation families, leaving plenty of parking for us. This was also the first time that my 9 month old got down and played in the sand, she is defiantly a California Girl.
We also got to see a Bear Grylls moment. This guy comes swimming out of the ocean with this big ass fish in his hands. He gets to the sand puts the fish on the sand, cuts him open, rips its guts out and tossed them to the Birds. I said WOW! now that guy is a Bad Ass!!

The only problem that i have when enjoying a day at the beach is that i CRAVE fish tacos and coronas. I don't know if its the sunshine or what but there was no way i was getting through the day with out some yummy fish tacos and a few corona's. I know this was probably not the best meal to plan with a 10 mile run the following morning but beach Matt doesn't think about Sunday morning runner Matt. Those two guys don't get along very well. Decided to do something that i never did before and that was to go buy some fresh cod and make my own fish tacos. I was super surprised because they came out super yummy!!
Oh man! Beach Matt totally screwed over Sunday morning runner Matt. After a late night of fish tacos and corona's when my alarm went off at 5 A.M i sure didn't want to get up. So i didn't, hit the snooze and slept till 6. When i finally got up i was still debating if i wanted to hit the trails. After about 20 minutes of laying there i decided its time to go run. Despite the night before i managed to have a very nice run. Hit the 10 mile mark for the first time during my training at a pretty decent pace. The only mistake i made was drinking to much coffee before the run, had to hit the bathroom 3 times ..haMatthew Rubcichttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00968059379717190995noreply@blogger.com5
